Your questions answered
A few of the things people often wonder about before booking. If there's something else on your mind, just ask, we're always happy to talk it through.
-
Yes. We always confirm with a blood test that your iron is genuinely low and that an infusion is the right treatment for you, rather than assuming. For some people, tablets or dietary changes are the better first step, so the assessment makes sure an infusion is appropriate before we go ahead.
-
Yes. Because we don't stock the iron on site, you'll need a prescription from your doctor and to have it filled beforehand, the pharmacy in the centre can do this. Bring the iron with you to your appointment so we're ready to go. Our team will make sure you know exactly what to get and where, so there are no surprises on the day.
-
The infusion is given through a small drip in your arm, so there's a brief needle prick to set it up, but it isn't a painful procedure. The appointment takes around 45 minutes, during which you can sit comfortably in our infusion pod while we monitor you throughout.
-
Iron infusions are a well-established treatment, and we follow proper clinical guidelines to keep you safe, including checking your blood pressure and monitoring your wellbeing during the appointment, so anything is picked up early. Side effects are usually mild, and we'll talk you through what to look out for afterwards.
-
Many people notice their energy lifting over the weeks following the infusion, as your body puts the iron to use, rather than immediately. We'll usually recheck your levels down the track to make sure they're staying where they should.
-
For most people, yes, iron infusions don't usually affect your ability to drive. Because reactions are occasionally possible, we'll keep an eye on you before you leave, and if you'd feel more comfortable having someone with you, you're welcome to bring a support person.
