When it's relevant

Twelve months have passed since your last period, or symptoms such as hot flushes, poor sleep, vaginal dryness or joint aches are affecting daily life.

Why it's worth a visit

Menopause is also a turning point for bone and heart health. And symptoms that are worth treating are often simply put up with.

How your GP can help

Your GP reviews your symptoms and health history, discusses whether menopausal hormone therapy or other treatment may be appropriate, and looks at bone and heart health at the same time.

How long do symptoms last?

It varies widely. Several years is common, and for some people longer.

I have bleeding after menopause. Is that normal?
